Hubbard’s Johnson 13th in D-II state bowling tournament

COLUMBUS

Hubbard High School junior Caleb Johnson had the high game of the Division II state boys bowling tournament on Friday and finished 13th among individuals.

Johnson, an individual qualifier for the Eagles, rolled games of 184, 278 and 215 for a 677 series at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.

Urbana won the state team championship.

Union City’s Mississinawa Valley’s Joseph Teeter dominated the tournament among individual bowlers with a 748 series, including games of 216, 276 and 256.

Springfield Shawnee’s Stephen Jackson (258-245-218—721) was a distant second. Mantua Crestwood’s Bradley Woodrum (236-264-219—719) was third.

Struthers qualified as a team for the eight-team championship round, but lost to eventual finalist Coldwater.

Coldwater then beat Lima Shawnee to reach the finals, but fell to Urbana.

Andrew Brabrant (191-219-230—640) was Struthers’ top bowler for the tournament. He placed 30th. Teammate Cameron Coppola (203-191-227—621) was 36th.

Champion placed 11th. The Golden Flashes’ Joe Martin (245-169-237—651) was 23rd among individuals and Zach Johson (214-180-203—597) was 47th.

The Division II state girls tournament is today at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.

The D-I state tournaments are next weekend.
