Launch of next-generation Chevrolet Cruze progressing to its expected spring release

CLEVELAND
The launch of the next-generation Chevrolet Cruze is progressing to its expected release in the spring.
"As in any launch you have a bump or two in the road," said Glenn Johnson, president of the United Auto Workers Local 1112.
The new Cruze is on display at the Cleveland Auto Show inside the IX Center. On Friday morning, Chevrolet and UAW leaders talked to press about the Cruze's success and the future of the compact car.
The Cruze is expected to follow in the successful footsteps of its predecessor. More than 1.5 million Cruzes have been built at the Lordstown plant since the first-generation's 2010 launch.
The new Cruze is lighter and leaner. It comes with better fuel economy at 42 miles per gallon, enhanced technology and more safety features that are typically not found in a compact car.
"I am excited to see it on display, but I am more excited to see it come down the line," said Steve Notar Donato, Lordstown plant manager.
About 4,500 are employed at the Lordstown plant.
