Landslide repair project begins on Monday
EAST PALESTINE
A project will begin Monday to repair a landslide along state Route 170 just south of East Palestine in Columbiana County.
The project will eliminate an existing rockfall hazard on the roadway’s eastern uphill slope and stabilize the slope on the western downhill side. Work will also include the installation of a new storm sewer system for roadway drainage, replacement of two existing clay culverts, new guardrail and pavement.
Traffic will be maintained with flaggers. Starting on March 21, however, state Route 170 will be detoured for 190 days.
ODOT’s contractor for the $1.9 million project is Tucson Inc. of New Philadelphia, Ohio, and the projected completion date is June 30, 2017.
