AUSTINTOWN

Students will serve supper and a show at Fitch Band’s annual spaghetti dinner.

Students in band, band department staff and Austintown Band Parents are hosting a dinner at Fitch High School from noon to 7p.m. on Saturday in the cafeteria.

It’s a fundraiser for band instruments and uniforms.

Various bands will perform throughout the day – Austintown Intermediate School’s fifth-grade band at 12 p.m., Fitch Freshman Band at 1 p.m., Fitch Concert Band at 2 p.m., Fitch Jazz Band at 3 p.m., Fitch Symphonic Band at 4 p.m. and Austintown Middle School bands at 5 p.m.

“The entire event is amazing – the performance is fun,” said band director Wesley O’Connor. “Our groups will play lighter, pop-oriented music, as well as our more serious concert literature. Band students work very hard throughout the year. It makes me proud to see them improve as musicians and grow into young adults.”

Bob Hope, Austintown Band Parents member, said he likes the responsibility aspect of the event – students are involved because the funds raised go toward new instruments and uniforms for them.

“The whole band always sticks together and helps each other out,” said Jordan Hope, 10th grade concert band member and Bob Hope’s daughter.

Not only do students stick together, but parents do as well.

“I enjoy the camaraderie with students and parents,” Bob Hope said. “It’s a tight-knit organization and who doesn’t love to do what you can do for your children?”

Patrons will also have the opportunity to participate in an auction including tickets to the Youngstown Symphony, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Pro Football Hall of Fame, as well gift certificates from local restaurants, business, hotels and more.

O’Connor said the event raises between $7,000 and $10,000.

“It all depends on the turnout of patrons, and most importantly, our parent volunteers who work the event. The more volunteers, the bigger the event,” O’Connor said. “Our parent organization does an amazing job putting this together.”

The cost to attend is $8 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and students, and free for children under the age of 4.
