The Scholastic Book Fair made its way into Poland Union Elementary the week of Feb. 1-5. Students were eager to choose their favorites from a selection of many different books. A few special guests showed up throughout the week to read stories to the children in different classes.
Stan Boney made an appearance at Sue Flasco’s first-grade class on Feb. 2. Boney read the books “Pete the Cat and his Magic Sunglasses” by James and Kimberly Dean and “Frog on a Log,” by Phil Roxbee Cox.
The students gathered on the carpet around Boney to listen to him read the books. After the stories were finished, the students had to chance to talk to Boney and ask him any questions they may have had. Afterward, the entire class made its way across the hall to the book fair.
Each of the students had an envelope with money that they could use to buy books, bookmarks or any other items that were being sold at the book fair.
“We will have had six classes by the time we leave, which is a little over 180 kids just today,” said Holly Kollar, the PTO co-chair of the book fair.
One volunteer, a mother to one of the students, said many students come in and are so energetic and excited to get new books. Some of the children will go up to the register with a stack of books they want to buy.
