Youngstown man convicted of raping child

CLEVELAND — A Youngstown man faces up to life in prison after he was convicted of crossing state lines to rape an 11-year old, federal law-enforcement officials said.

Iraephraim Underwood, 59, was convicted after a jury trial of one count of crossing a state line to engage in a sexual act with a person who had not attained the age of 12 years old and one count of transporting a child under 18 years of age in interstate commerce with the intent to engage in an illegal sexual act.

Underwood is expected to be sentenced later this year. A news release from the U.S. Justice Department did not specify the child's gender.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Michael A. Sullivan and Benedict Gullo after an investigation by FBI, with assistance from the Youngstown and Boardman police departments.
