Southwest Ohio university probing frat, sorority hazing

OXFORD, Ohio (AP) — A southwest Ohio university says it’s investigating hazing allegations reported at a dozen fraternities and sororities.

Oxford-based Miami University says it has received 21 complaints over the last three weeks related to fraternity initiation processes.

The Office of Ethics and Student Conflict Resolution has ordered pledging to be completed by Friday, two weeks earlier than scheduled.

University officials say there have been no official suspensions. The cases will be reviewed and subjected to a formal hearing process. Organizations and students can then appeal the decision.

The fraternities and sororities involved weren’t identified.

About 30 percent of the university’s undergraduates are involved with a fraternity or sorority.
