Lakes Newport and Glacier to open March 1
YOUNGSTOWN
Mill Creek MetroParks will reopen Lakes Newport and Glacier for public use March 1, it announced today.
Park lakes closed last summer after a finding of elevated E. coli bacteria levels in the water.
“We’re excited to have the lakes back open and to have another recreation opportunity for residents. I know many visitors missed using the lakes last year and we look forward to a safe and active year on the water,” said Executive Director Aaron Young in a release.
Privately owned canoes, kayaks and boats are permitted on Lake Glacier and Lake Newport. Boat rentals will be available at the Lake Glacier and Lake Newport boathouses from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Fishing is permitted at both lakes, in waters south of the Lake Newport dam and between Lake Glacier and Lake Cohasset dams. Fishing also is permitted at Yellow Creek Park. Fishing licenses are required. For more information, visit the boating & fishing page at www.millcreekmetroparks.org.
The boating and fishing season for Mill Creek MetroParks runs March 1 to Nov. 30.
