‘Youngstown’ family on ‘Family Feud’
The Graves family of Ohio, with members living in Campbell, Cleveland and Columbus, won the “Family Feud” episode aired at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on 21 WFMJ-TV.
The family says they are representing Youngstown.
Winning Tuesday gave the family - Romell, Gwen, Jazmeme, Tiera and Mahogani - the right to a return appearance on the show today, hosted by Steve Harvey, with a chance to win more cash and possibly a new automobile.
In an interview with 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, Romell said appearing on the show gave them not only a chance to win prizes, but the week they were involved in the show doubled as a family reunion.
Acting class at JCC

Liz Rubino Studios at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane, is offering a Storytime! Superheroes & Superheroines acting class for children age 3 to 5 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 15 and 22.
Participants will be led through weekly discoveries in fairy-tale settings as they play with the principles of improvisational drama, creative movement and visual arts.
This is done in a safe and fun learning environment where costumes and play are highly encouraged.
The cost is $65 for members; $75 for nonmembers.

Youngstown man faces multiple charges

A Youngstown man remains in the Mahoning County jail after he was arraigned in Mahoning County Area Court here Tuesday.
Darius Dates, 18, of Dewey Avenue, is being held without bond on counts of drug trafficking and theft, according to sheriff’s office records. He also is charged with felony counts of obstructing official business, assault on a police officer, tampering with evidence and drug possession, and a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.
The charges stem from an incident Friday in which police said Dates tried to swallow a bag of heroin, led police on a chase and assaulted an officer after a traffic stop at Sheridan Road and Lynn Mar Avenue.
He is scheduled to be back in court Tuesday.
Police find revolver, suspected drugs
AUSTINTOWN
A Youngstown man was arrested for illegally possessing a revolver and having suspected heroin.
Sgt. Christopher Collins said while on foot patrol at Bill’s Place on Mahoning Avenue, he observed Tyreese K. Lynch, 21, of East Judson Avenue, reach into his waistband for a silver revolver and slide it under the seat.
Collins told Lynch not to move and called for backup.
Officers then searched the vehicle and found Viagra pills, a bag of suspected heroin and the loaded revolver, a report said.
Funds released for prison renovations
COLUMBUS
The state controlling board this week released more than $60,000 for separate renovations at Trumbull Correctional Institution in Leavittsburg.
A total of $26,344 will be used for design services for heating, air conditioning and ventilation improvements at the prison’s camp, upgrading systems installed two dozen years ago in the facility’s food service building.
An additional $17,272 will be used for design services for the replacement of 44 showers, and $20,888 will go toward design services for a generator replacement.
IAP Government Services Group of Columbus is handling all three projects.
Arrested on warrant
AUSTINTOWN
A man was arrested on a warrant after damaging a car at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course, North Canfield-Niles Road.
Police said David Soles, 53, of Kirk Road, dented three doors and smashed in the side mirrors on the victim’s vehicle.
Officers observed the surveillance video after the victim made the report Jan. 31, confirming Soles’ vehicle and identity.
A warrant for his arrest for criminal damaging was issued by Mahoning County Area Court here Feb. 12, and he was arrested Monday night.
Police investigate Campbell burglaries
CAMPBELL
Police are investigating two reports of burglaries.
A Cortland Avenue resident reported Monday that someone had taken about $200 worth of jewelry from her home. The woman said Feb. 14 was the last time she was at the home, police reported. There were no signs of forced entry, according to a police report.
Another resident reported Sunday that someone had taken about $1,000 of copper piping from his basement ceiling and walls. A police report notes a broken window at the Tremble Avenue home. The man told police he is in the process of moving.
Presentation at JCC

“Avoiding Illness” is the subject of the Jewish Community Center’s “Lunch and Learn: Preventive Medicine” presentation from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the center’s multipurpose room, 505 Gypsy Lane.
The speaker, Dr. Szymon Krzyzanowski, a Youngstown physician specializing in family medicine, will discuss preventive medicine, including immunizations that are important for adults and senior citizens, and address exercise and medical procedures recommended within the scope of preventive medicine.
