Hilton apologizes for Irving’s bed bug bites
OKLAHOMA CITY
Hilton Hotels has apologized after Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving said he was bitten by bed bugs Saturday night during his stay in downtown Oklahoma City.
Irving played just nine minutes the next day in a nationally televised win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Irving later said it was because he discovered the bugs and slept on the couch instead of his bed at the Skirvin Hilton. He said he had just three hours of sleep and had tightness in his back afterward.
Hilton said in a statement it was “sorry to hear about Mr. Irving’s stay.”
Health inspectors from the Oklahoma City-County Health Department say adjacent rooms were inspected by a professional pest company, and no other signs of bed bugs were noted.
OSU lineman’s charges dismissed in plea deal
COLUMBUS
A misdemeanor solicitation charge against Ohio State defensive lineman Adolphus Washington has been dismissed.
Court records show the charge was dismissed Monday. Washington’s attorney said last month that the charge would be dismissed under a plea deal if Washington completed a program in which men learn about victimization of prostitutes.
Court records show he pleaded guilty to the charge in January in Columbus. Police cited Washington Dec. 9.
The Columbus Dispatch reports police said Washington agreed to pay an undercover officer $100 for sex after responding to an online ad.
The senior from Cincinnati played in 12 games this season but was suspended for the Buckeyes’ Fiesta Bowl victory over Notre Dame on Jan. 1.
He issued an apology through the university.
NFL says video has ‘disturbing images’
JACKSONVILLE, FLA.
The NFL says video of Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. apparently refereeing a fight between his girlfriend and the mother of his child includes “disturbing images.”
Fowler took responsibility “for everything that happened” in the 30-second video released by TMZ on Tuesday.
The surveillance tape shows Fowler and the two women standing outside an elevator and talking. Fowler appears to offer a hand gesture for them to start fighting and then steps back. One of the women kicks off her flip flops before they exchange punches. Fowler eventually pulls them apart.
“These are disturbing images and we will review the matter,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said.
Fowler says he is “embarrassed and have apologized for my actions to everyone involved.”
Tennessee wants Manning off lawsuit
KNOXVILLE, TENN.
The University of Tennessee has filed a motion to strike a reference to Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning from a lawsuit that alleges the school has violated Title IX policies in its handling of sexual assault complaints against athletes.
The lawsuit filed Feb. 9 by six unidentified women focuses on five cases from 2013 to 2015, but also references incidents dating back to 1995 to show how the school has historically handled reports of player misconduct. One paragraph in the 64-page document mentions a sexual harassment complaint made by a Tennessee trainer in 1996 including an incident involving Manning, then the Volunteers’ quarterback.
The motion filed Tuesday says the Manning reference should be struck “because of the utter lack of relevance” it has to the lawsuit.
