Vienna visitors beware: Burping too loudly could be costly

VIENNA

Vienna visitors beware: Burping too loudly could come at a price.

Vienna bartender Edin Mehic found that out when fined 70 euros ($77) after belching in the proximity of a policeman while enjoying the scene at the Prater fun park area.

Displayed on Mehic’s Facebook page, the ticket notes that Mehic violated “public decency with a loud belch next to a police officer.”

Police spokesman Roman Hahslinger confirmed Monday that Mehic had been fined for the offending burp.

Though it was emitted earlier this month, the belch continues to resonate.

By Monday, 118 people said they will attend a flash mob posted on Facebook and planned for Saturday near the scene of the crime. An additional 298 were “interested” in the “Loud Belch Flashmob.”

Mehic plans to appeal.

Emu evades police for days until it’s caught in barbed wire

OXFORD, Miss.

It wasn’t your usual foot chase. Oxford police caught a homeless emu, with help from some barbed wire.

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department had been getting calls about a loose emu for days. Each time they tried to catch the big, flightless bird, it got away.

Deputy Chief Scott Mills tells The Oxford Eagle that it had been a pet, but the owners moved away.

The bird wandered nearly 5 miles.

Officer Cody Pruitt says a chase Friday ended when the bird got tangled in barbed wire.

He says its neck was merely scratched. He untangled it, made a leash from rope, and Mounted Patrol Commander David Misenhelter led the emu into a horse trailer.

Pruitt says a farmer who already had emus agreed to take the bird.

Bankruptcy judge questions photos of 50 Cent with cash piles

HARTFORD, Conn.

Rapper 50 Cent has been ordered to appear in bankruptcy court in Connecticut to explain photos showing him with wads of cash.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Judge Ann Nevins told the rapper’s lawyer Thursday that several photos posted on Instagram made her concerned about allegations 50 Cent wasn’t being truthful about his finances. A hearing date hasn’t been set.

50 Cent’s lawyer told the judge his client has reported all income.

The social media photos mentioned in court documents include one showing 50 Cent lying in bed with bundles of $100 bills.

The rapper was born Curtis Jackson III. He filed for bankruptcy last year after a New York City jury ordered him to pay $7 million to a woman who said he posted her sex tape online.
