BOARDMAN

Township trustees swore in four entry-level firefighters at a meeting Monday.

The new firefighters are Cory Hinderliter, Steven Stilson, Tyler Simpkins and Jonathan Park.

Under the contract between the firefighters union and the township, entry-level firefighters make $26,500 per year. Effective March 1, firefighters get an annual salary increase of $1,250.

Woman reports man held her hostage

NILES

Lawrence L. Cox Jr., 21, of Perkinswood Boulevard Southeast in Warren, Youll Street in Niles and other addresses, was arraigned Monday in Niles Municipal Court on multiple charges after a woman reported that he held her hostage Jan. 31.

The woman said Cox broke into her house, struck her in the face, took her phones, held a sword to her throat and then made her drive him around.

She escaped when he went into a house on Perkinswood.

He’s charged with aggravated burglary, violating a protection order, domestic violence and abduction. No plea was required, and he remains in the Trumbull County jail in lieu of $10,000 bond.

Warren man found with stab wound

WARREN

A man, 30, of Warren was found with a stab wound of the chest at a home on Lancer Court Northwest at 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

The man would not tell police how he got the injury, but police saw blood on the front door of the home and on the ground nearby.

The woman living there said the man arrived with the injury, and she was holding a piece of clothing on his injured area.

Police found silverware on the ground near a trash can.

The woman said she threw the silverware on the ground looking for something to stop the bleeding.

The man was transported by ambulance to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

Warren man faces two new charges

WARREN

Nicholas Pozega, 20, of Grandview Street Southeast, went to the Warren Police Department with his mother to turn himself in on warrants but ended up getting two new charges when he tried to flee from police.

Pozega was in the car while his mother went into the police station at 5:08 p.m. Friday to say her son was there to turn himself in.

When an officer went outside to take him into custody, Pozega fled on foot toward Franklin and Pine streets and tried to hide in the outdoor patio of a Pine Street tavern.

Pozega damaged a fence to get into the patio and resisted arrest police said. Additional charges of criminal damaging and resisting arrest were added.

He was arraigned Monday in Warren Municipal Court on the two new charges, pleading not guilty. He is being held in the Trumbull County jail without eligibility to make bond.

The Lincoln Knolls Community Watch group will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today at the East branch library, 430 Early Road.

Board meeting

AUSTINTOWN

Mahoning County Planning Commission will have a regular board meeting at 1 p.m. today in the conference room at 50 Westchester Drive.

Annual cleanup set

YOUNGSTOWN

Tod Homestead Cemetery’s annual cleanup will take place March 15.

All decorations on the graves, including solar lights and artificial in cemetery vases, will be removed at this time.

Anyone wishing to recover their decorations must do so before the 15th.
