Officers struggling with a man they were trying to arrest Sunday afternoon for domestic violence found a gun on him, reports said.

Tramaine Wright, 19, of Emery Avenue, was arraigned in municipal court Monday via video hookup from the Mahoning County jail on charges of trafficking in cocaine, carrying concealed weapons, resisting arrest and domestic violence.

His bond was set at $50,000 by Magistrate Anthony Sertick.

Officers Mark Sember, Anthony Trimble and Joe Burnich were called about 4:05 p.m. to a home in the 400 block of Emery Avenue for a report of a domestic dispute and when they arrived they found Wright on the front porch, reports said. Wright told the officers he was waiting for a ride and a woman inside is the mother of his child.

Reports said two of the officers stayed with Wright while a third went inside to speak to the woman, who told them Wright choked her and threatened to kill her.

Reports said the woman had marks on her neck and the officers told Wright he would be arrested for domestic violence.

When the officers tried to handcuff Wright, he tried to pull his arm away and would not cooperate, reports said.

Reports said it took all three officers to take him to the ground and as they did, one of the officers used his electronic stun weapon on Wright.

Reports said after the weapon was used on Wright, he continued to struggle and was reaching toward a gun officers could see in his clothing.

Reports said he was stunned again, the officers recovered the gun and Wright was cuffed and taken to the jail.

During a search, police found three bags of suspected cocaine in his possession.

On the way to the jail, Wright told officers he was reaching for the gun to get rid of it, not use it, reports said.

The gun taken by police is the 28th taken this year and eighth this month, according to Vindicator files.
