William Finnigan has a new book
YOUNGSTOWN
“Living Skillfully” is the new book recently released by Dr. William J. Finnigan of Warren, who has served as an instructor at Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley for almost 20 years.
The book is available online from both Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
It is a 546-page work on the book of Proverbs, distilled from years of teaching and preaching by Finnigan. He is a pastor, teacher and Biblical instructor at the Discipleship Academy.
Finnigan has been engaged in active ministry for more than 50 years.
Finnigan’s outreach experience has included radio, prison and Bible conference ministries. He has served as a college professor and director of a Biblical counseling center. Finnigan has authored other publications, including “Healing for the Mind” and “Forgiven to Forgive.”
Vietnam hero at book signing

Mack Payne, author of “Conversations with Vietnam Heroes,” will sign copies of his book Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. and 2 to 7:30 p.m. at Fit Family Fitness Center, 6255 Mahoning Ave.
The book recounts the true, often gut-wrenching accounts of nine Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force veterans about their time in Vietnam and their lives after the war.
John Bullock, a resident of Austintown and one of the Vietnam heroes featured in the book, will be on hand to sign books and tell about his experiences in Vietnam, where he worked in the medical field. Bullock has an inspiring story that is one of exemplary service in Vietnam followed by a lifetime of service to his community.
Payne, a highly decorated veteran with two years of services in Vietnam, is a Vietnam expert and prolific writer and professional speaker, as well as a graduate of the University of Florida and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. He is dedicated to spreading the message of unsung Vietnam War heroes.
Copies of “Conversations with Vietnam Heroes” will be sold at the reduced price of $10.
Ubisoft, Scholastic collaborate on series
Ubisoft and Scholastic recently announced a collaboration on a new young-adult book series, “Last Descendants,” based on the hit video game franchise Assassin’s Creed.
Written for readers age 12 and up by award-winning author Matthew J. Kirby, the first book in the “Last Descendants” series will launch simultaneously in September in the U.S., Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.
The second book will follow in January 2017.
“Last Descendants” is an action adventure, historical fiction saga featuring a group of teens caught up in the centuries-old Assassin-Templar feud.
Inspired by the popular video game series, the first book is set concurrently in the present-day, 1860s New York City and during the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire and will feature historical figures including William “Boss” Tweed, Hernan Cortes and renowned opera singer Adelina Patti, among others.
