Gathering Place will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 14 at Lord of Life Church, 550 N. Broad St., Canfield. Jim Loboy of WYTV will be speaker. Lunch will be provided by the Woodlands. This is a free community outreach social program offered to all senior citizens on the second Monday of each month. A variety of games and activities are offered. Girard Multi-Generational Center, 443 Trumbull Ave., is sponsoring an AARP Tax Aide Program for those with moderate to low income and all senior citizens each Tuesday and Thursday through April 14. Niles S.C.O.P.E. Senior Center, 14 E. State St., is offering a variety of events and services. Free tax preparation by the AARP Tax Aide Program will be offered for those with moderate to low income and for senior citizens with simple returns, each Friday from through April 15, excluding Good Friday on March 25. Taxes will be done by appointment only from 9 a.m. through 1:30 p.m. A lunch and learn falls prevention program will be offered from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. Individual assessments will be available after lunch and a short presentation from representatives from First Light Home Care and Senior Independence. Senior Independence Senior Center of Mahoning County, 1110 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, will welcome AARP tax experts from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays and Fridays through April 11. Experts will assist seniors over 60 with the preparation of their tax forms; take last year’s tax return along with all 2014 information. The return will be filed electronically, and all parties must be present to sign the return. Free coffee and doughnuts will be provided by Greenbriar Healthcare Center and the Commons at Greenbriar. Donations to the center for the service are appreciated. Filings are by appointment only. Boardman High School will perform the musical “Carousel” in the Performing Arts Center at 4 p.m. March 3; seniors are invited to attend free of charge with center officials. Participants are required to register by March 1 by calling the center. A series of free classes, “A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns about Falls,” will be 10 a.m. March 8, 15, 22 and 29 and 1 p.m. March 10, 17, 24, 31. The is program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels for older adults. Participants will learn fall prevention strategies along with specific exercises designed to increase strength, endurance, flexibility and balance. The program is appropriate for those concerned about falls, interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength, or those who have fallen in the past.
