Last week, an anonymous collector bought a rare copy of a comic book featuring the first appearance of Spider-Man for $454,100 at a Dallas auction house. But the sale of the near-mint copy of “Amazing Fantasy” No. 15 from 1962 wasn’t even close to the highest price ever paid for a comic book. Here, according to dacardworld.com, are the top five:
v $2.161 million: “Action Comics” No. 1, 2011. This famous issue featured the debut of Superman. The seller was actor Nicolas Cage.
v $1.5 million: “Action Comics” No. 1, 2010. This copy was not in as pristine condition as above.
v $1.1 million: “Amazing Fantasy” No. 15, 2011. Spider-Man’s first appearance in an impeccable copy.
v $1.075 million: “Detective Comics” No. 27, 2010: The debut of Batman.
v $1 million: “Action Comics” No. 1, 2010: Yet another copy that featured the debut of Superman.
