Officials discuss signage along Yellow Creek in Poland
Staff report
POLAND
Village, township and school district officials met Wednesday with representatives from Eastgate Regional Council of Governments and the Mahoning County Engineer’s office to discuss a project to add educational signage along Yellow Creek.
The group plans to seek out Ohio Environmental Protection Agency grant funds for the project.
The plan is a response to concerns regarding water quality in the creek.
That issue came to light last year when a resident called for action from local government officials after her grandson suffered a serious bacterial infection that family members believe was caused by exposure to creek water.
The group agreed on the basics of the project – that watershed awareness signs should be posted at multiple, visible locations. The project also would include a classroom-education component.
Representatives will go back to their respective entities to get commitments. Stephanie Dyer, environmental program manager at Eastgate, will work on the grant application.
