Ohio patrol, other state police target violators on I-75
COLUMBUS (AP) — Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers and other members of a multistate-trooper project are focusing on speed, safety belt and enforcement of operating a vehicle while impaired in a special effort along Interstate 75.
Members of the 6-State Trooper Project began the high-visibility effort today and will continue it through Sunday at 11:59 p.m. The Kentucky State Police and the Michigan State Police are joining in the project.
OSHP officials say there were 14,151 OVI-related crashes on Ohio roadways in 2015 that killed 390 people and injured 8,435. OVI-related crashes last year accounted for 35 percent of all fatal crashes in the state.
The 6-State Trooper Project is aimed at providing combined and coordinated law enforcement and security services in the areas of highway safety, criminal patrol and intelligence sharing.
