This Feb. 27 marks the 46th annual Canfield Band Parents Pasta Dinner and Chinese auction at the Canfield High School – one of the longest continual school fundraisers in the Valley.
Back in the early ‘70s, the pasta dinner began as a roast beef and mashed potato fundraiser. Through the years, with three generations of band families passing through the high school, it has grown into a pasta dinner with a large Chinese auction. The current dinner serves approximately 1,600 people and the auction features approximately 100 quality baskets form generous area merchants.
“The quality of the donations speaks volumes about the value local merchants place on a solid music education” remarked Steve Hlaudy, the new Chinese Auction chairperson. “We enjoy having a wonderful mix of luxury, unique and sought after baskets – it’s really a lot of fun.”
Cathy Miasek is heading up the pasta dinner for this year.
“I’ve enjoyed interacting with our 100 plus parent volunteers, as well as the local merchants who support the food end of the day. We could not put out such a terrific meal for the community without everyone’s support,” she said.
“Fundraisers like these help us support our band programs in our schools. They are vital to our children’s success, be it the OMEA Solo and Ensemble contest last month or the band’s upcoming trip to Disney World over spring break,” said Band Parent President Dr. Rajiv Taneja. “We are humbled by the community’s support of these great band programs.”
Doors open at 11 a.m. and the dinner goes until 6 p.m. Take out is available all day long.
