Selah Dessert Theatre to stage ‘Dear Liar’

Staff report

STRUTHERS

Selah Dessert Theatre will present Jerome Kilty’s “Dear Liar” as part of the Month of Romance events at Selah Restaurant, 130 Bridge St.

The play reveals the intriguing, long-distance romance between playwright George Bernard Shaw and one of the leading actresses of the time, Mrs. Patrick Campbell.

Audiences will discover the story behind “Pygmalion” and how Shaw persuaded the lady to play Eliza. In the end, Mrs. Campbell, on the verge of bankruptcy, publishes all of the letters that went between them, much to Shaw’s disapproval.

It is a story of two witty and strong-willed people who are highly skilled at verbal repartee.

The cast includes the husband and wife team of Amy-Anne and Eric Kibler, and is directed by Mary Ruth Lynn.

Performances will be at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday this week and next.

Tickets are $17.50 and include dessert and coffee at intermission. The theater space is located above Selah Restaurant and is accessible by stairs. Dinner reservations can be made at selahrestaurant.com or by calling 800-838-3006.
