Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign announced the launch of its Ohio Leadership Council that includes four elected officials from the Mahoning Valley.
The council, with more than 60 members, will “help build a grassroots-driven volunteer team” for Clinton for the state’s March 15 primary, her campaign wrote in an email.
The locals on the council are U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Howland, D-13th; Ohio Senate Minority Leader Joe Schiavoni of Boardman, D-33rd; state Rep. John Boccieri of Poland, D-59th; and Michele Lepore-Hagan of Youngstown, D-58th.
Dog-show honor
VIENNA
A township woman and her curly-coated retriever earned an Award of Merit prize at the 140th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
Sue Davis and her dog, Grand Champion Brio’s Grand Master Flash at Darkside, Flash for short, won the medal at the show, which ran Monday and Tuesday in New York City.
Davis, who is director of admissions at Youngstown State University, began showing dogs in 2007. The 2-year-old, 75-pound dog earned an automatic invitation to the show by placing in the top five of his breed last year.
Suspect arrested
BOARDMAN
Township police and members of the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force on Tuesday arrested a suspect wanted for purportedly robbing a township bank last week.
Craig Candiotti, 34, of Greenville, Pa., is charged with aggravated robbery for the Feb. 11 incident at Citizens Bank on Boardman-Poland Road. He is in the Mahoning County jail without bond pending an appearance in Mahoning County Area Court today.
Candiotti purportedly stole $2,300 from the bank after passing a note to a bank teller that read, “I have a gun. Sound no alarms. Put the money in the bag, and no one will get hurt.”
Trash pickup delay
GIRARD
Trash pickup for city residents will be delayed one day due to the weather. Trash should be put out on Friday for collection Saturday.
Snowmobilers
Boardman Township and Youngstown police observed an odd sight during Tuesday’s snow storm: people driving a snowmobile on main roads.
According to a township police report, a police officer saw a snowmobile with two riders traveling northbound on South Avenue about 2 a.m. Tuesday.
The officer, with the assistance of backup police, unsuccessfully attempted to stop the snowmobile. The pursuit ended at Mathews Road.
Later, Youngstown police reportedly observed a snowmobile driving across the Market Street bridge downtown at an estimated speed of 70 mph. They, too, were unable to stop the driver.
