Officials met today to discuss signage along Yellow Creek in Poland

POLAND — Village, township and school district officials today met with representatives from Eastgate Regional Council of Governments and the Mahoning County Engineer's office to discuss a project to add educational signage along Yellow Creek.

The group plans to seek out Ohio Environmental Protection Agency grant funds for the project.

The plan is a response to concerns regarding water quality in the creek. That issue came to light last year when a resident called for action from local government officials after her grandson sustained a serious bacterial infection that family members believe was caused by exposure to creek water.

Today the group agreed on the basics of the project: that watershed awareness signs should be posted at multiple, visible locations. The project also would include a classroom education component.

Representatives will go back to their respective entities to get commitments.
