Prosecutors are recommending two years in prison for a Campbell man who pleaded guilty Tuesday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court to a charge of robbery.

Anthony White, 23, of Picadilly Street, entered his plea before Judge Shirley J. Christian. Sentencing is set for April 1.

Assistant Prosecutor Nick Brevetta told the judge that prosecutors will not oppose judicial release for White after he serves six months in prison.

White originally was charged with aggravated robbery with a firearm specification, but the charge was amended to robbery, and the firearm specification was dropped in exchange for White’s plea.

White has been free on bond, and Judge Christian continued that bond until his sentencing.

In court, when asked by the judge how far he got in school, White said he dropped out in ninth grade, then was trying to earn his GED when he began to get in trouble.

“I started hanging with the wrong crowd and the wrong people,” White said. “I’m a good kid. I know what I did was wrong. I am very sorry.”

White is accused of robbing a McCartney Road gas station in Campbell on Aug. 2. Brevetta said he acted as if he had a gun during the robbery but he was not armed. He got away with three boxes of cigarettes worth $150.

Campbell police arrested White shortly after the robbery during a traffic stop.

Brevetta said White has no prior felony criminal record, which counted into his plea and sentencing. The store owner also did not want White to be severely punished, Brevetta said.

“The victim ... did not want to see Mr. White harshly punished,” Brevetta said.
