GIRARD
A man facing a first-degree misdemeanor charge for child endangering entered a not-guilty plea at his arraignment Tuesday in Girard Municipal Court.
Police and fire department officials responded to the Washington Avenue home of Thomas File, 48, of Girard on Feb. 3 and found File’s teenage son passed out seemingly from exhaust fumes, a police report states. The report describes unsanitary conditions in the home and states the teen, who is autistic, was covered in vomit and urine.
File will appear in municipal court for a pretrial hearing at 1:30 p.m. May 18.

Urinated in coffee
WARREN
Safety-Service Director Enzo Cantalamessa fired Corey Cobb-Davis from his job as a water-plant operator Friday for urinating in a coffee cup while in an office at the water plant Jan. 28.
Cobb-Davis, 35, worked for the city four years and is the son of former Warren Utilities Director Bob Davis, who left that job in May to become utilities director for Cleveland. Cobb-Davis earned $17.19 per hour.
A letter Cantalamessa wrote to Corey Cobb-Davis Friday says he is terminated for committing an “act of gross misconduct.” It says Cobb-Davis admitted the act to a supervisor and said “it was not your first time.”
“Irrespective of whether the cup was ‘your cup’ or a cup belonging to a co-worker, your conduct was unconscionable,” Cantalamessa said.
If Cobb-Davis chooses, he can appeal the punishment to an arbitrator.
Leaving board
WARREN
The Trumbull County Prosecutor’s Office says it would have asked Ken Kubala, safety and compliance manager with the Trumbull County Engineer’s Office, to step down from his position on the board of elections if Kubala would not have done so voluntarily.
The prosecutor’s office received an opinion from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office on Feb. 6 that said Kubala had a conflict of interest by serving on the elections board and working at the engineer’s office because his boss, Engineer Randy Smith, is on the ballot March 15 for re-election.
The Trumbull County Democratic Party Executive Committee on Feb. 12 selected county Recorder Diana Marchese to take over the elections position effective March 1. Kubala did not seek to be re-elected.
Kubala will remain on the elections board through Feb. 29.
Churches vandalized in Wellsville area
WELLSVILLE
Officials say police are investigating after vandals spray-painted upside down crosses and other anti-Christian graffiti at three Wellsville churches.
Tom Brophey, a member of the now closed Immaculate Conception Church in the village says he’s putting a tarp over a Virgin Mary statue. The statue’s face is covered in black paint and has an upside down cross painted on its body.
The Columbiana County village is about 45 miles south of Youngstown.
Upside down crosses also cover a Wellsville United Methodist church sign.
A Covenant Presbyterian church door had the word “Satan” painted on it. Remnants of the marks remain visible.
