Luis Negron should have taken the refund.

Negron, 21, of Hunter Street, and a friend were unhappy about their order early Sunday at the McDonald’s restaurant at 601 E. Midlothian Blvd. on the South Side and would not leave even after a manager said he would give them a refund if they would just go.

Instead, police were called, and now Negron is staying at a place where dining options are limited: the Mahoning County jail.

He was taken there after officers found suspected crack cocaine and heroin in his pockets. The officers also learned Negron was wanted on a warrant from New Jersey.

Negron is expected to be arraigned in municipal court today.

Officers Michael Medvec, Jacob Short and Kenneth Garling were called to the fast-food restaurant about 4:20 a.m. Sunday for a fight between two customers and the restaurant manager.

When the officers arrived, reports said, the manager told them Negron and his friend were upset over an order and refused to leave. The manager said Negron and his friend ordered incorrectly and when they were told it would take several minutes for the correct order to be filled, they became upset.

The manager told the officers he offered Negron and his friend a refund if they would leave, but the two refused.

Reports said the officers then asked Negron and his friend for their names, so they could issue a criminal-trespass warning against them. When they entered Negron’s name into the computer, the warrant came up, reports said.

Officers told Negron they had to search him in case he was to be taken into custody for the warrant so New Jersey authorities could come and get him. When they began their search Negron told the officers he is an addict, reports said. The search turned up a bag with suspected heroin and cocaine inside.

Negron told the officers they should not arrest him because he is a drug addict, reports said. When the officers told him there are treatment programs available for drug addicts, Negron told them he did not care. “You all make me want to shoot up. I’m going to shoot up until I die,” reports quoted Negron as saying to the officers.

Negron’s friend was not taken into custody, according to the police report.
