MAHONING VALLEY Winter weather advisory for area: 3-6” ahead

A winter weather advisory has been issued for the Youngstown-Warren area from 7 p.m. today to 1 p.m. Tuesday by the National Weather Service in Cleveland, which is predicting a total snow accumulation of 3 to 6 inches.

However, the NWS said high temperatures today will be in the mid-30s falling only a few degrees to a low of about 30.

Today’s and Tuesday’s heavy snowfall will come from Tennessee, but the NWS says the Mahoning Valley remains on the edge of the huge storm coming east and is not expected to feel the brunt of it.

The forecast for the rest of Tuesday is cloudy with a 50 percent chance of snow and an additional accumulation of about 1 inch possible. The high temperature will be in the mid-30s and low in the mid-20s, with winds out of the north from 10 to 15 miles per hour.

Several little systems are expected to come through Tuesday night into Wednesday, bringing some lingering snow showers with light accumulation each time.

The long-range forecast is for a break in the snow Thursday with temperatures moving into the mid-40s on Friday after flirting with a record low of minus 2 degrees early Sunday, just 4 degrees shy of the record minus 6 degrees set in 1979.
