A man who survived an assault by a machete-wielding attacker in an Ohio restaurant says the attacker’s face was full of hate.
Gerry Russell says he and his wife, Debbie Russell, had just finished dinner at Nazareth Restaurant and Deli in Columbus on Thursday night when he spotted a man holding what he thought was a baton.
The Russells told WCMH-TV on Sunday that the attacker went after Gerry Russell first, injuring his hands as he tried to protect his head. The Russells say the man attacked Debbie Russell next, also injuring her hands. The couple says they underwent five hours of surgery and have hundreds of stitches.
Police shot suspect Mohamed Barry to death the same night after they say he threatened officers with a machete and knife.
