Valley temps to rise out of deep freeze over next few days
Staff report
YOUNGSTOWN
The worst of a major winter storm headed for the Midwest and eastern portions of the nation Monday and Tuesday is expected to skip the Mahoning Valley and Northeast Ohio unless weather patterns change, according to the National Weather Service in Cleveland.
If the storm track pans out, the NWS is looking for the majority of the snow to be across eastern Kentucky, southeastern Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania, up into New York State.
The Youngstown-area forecast is for partly sunny conditions today with little or no snow, up to an inch of snow Monday and a 40 percent chance of snow Tuesday.
However, temperatures, which were supposed to be as low as minus 2 degrees Saturday night, are expected to be more moderate in the coming days.
The National Weather Service predicted the low today would be 12 degrees, rising to 18 after midnight and into the lower 30s Monday.
