Girard Multi-Generational Center, 443 Trumbull Ave., is sponsoring an AARP Tax Aide Program for those with moderate to low income and all senior citizens each Tuesday and Thursday through April 14. No appointments are taken; taxes are done first come, first served from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. For information on required documentation, call the center at 330-545-6596.
Niles S.C.O.P.E. Senior Center, 14 E. State St., is offering a variety of events and services. Free tax preparation by the AARP Tax Aide Program will be offered for those with moderate to low income and for senior citizens with simple returns each Friday from through April 15, excluding Good Friday on March 25. Taxes will be done by appointment only from 9 a.m. through 1:30 p.m. A dental van will stop at the center from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and again Feb. 22. A hygienist will be available to offer cleanings and a dentist for dental procedures; services are free to those whole qualify. Dr. Thomas Pokabla of Podiatry Services will visit the center from 9 a.m. to noon Friday. Take insurance cards as co-pays will apply. Appointments are required. A lunch and learn falls prevention program will be offered from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 26. Individual assessments will be available after lunch and a short presentation by representatives from First Light Home Care and Senior Independence. Senior Independence Senior Center of Mahoning County, 1110 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, will welcome AARP tax experts from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays and Fridays through April 11. Experts will assist seniors over 60 with the preparation of their tax forms; take last year’s tax return along with all 2014 information. The return will be filed electronically, and all parties must be present to sign the return. Free coffee and doughnuts will be provided by Greenbriar Healthcare Center and the Commons at Greenbriar. Donations to the center for the service are appreciated. Filings are by appointment only; call the center at 330-744-5071. Total Lifetime Care Insurance Richard Schlue Agency is sponsoring a Valentine’s Day dance from 2 to 3:30 p.m. today. There will be entertainment by John Ruman, dancing, desserts, raffles and door prizes. Cost for center members is $2 and $5 for guests. Reservations were taken.
