Man injured on I-80

MERCER, PA.

A DuBois, Pa., man suffered serious injuries in a three-vehicle crash Saturday morning on Interstate 80 in Wolf Creek Township. Flown from Grove City Medical Center to Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh with “unknown severe injuries” was Richard P. Wolfgang, 73, the Pennsylvania State Police Mercer Post reported. The crash occurred when a tractor-trailer rig, driven by John Curtin of Stanhope, N.J., traveling east in the right lane, struck Wolfgang’s vehicle, which was traveling slower. After the initial contact, the rig struck Wolfgang’s vehicle a second time, which contained a passenger, Sherry Wolfgang, 62, of DuBois, and continued on and hit another vehicle, driven by Aarron W. Hunsinger of Meadville, Pa., whose car ended up pinned between the truck and the guide rail. The police report says all parties were wearing seat belts, but does not indicate if others were injured.

I-80 pileup

MERCER, PA.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation temporarily reduced the speed to 45 mph on Interstate 80 in Mercer and Venango counties after a multivehicle pileup at about 8:30 a.m. Saturday. According to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, police said traffic was halted for some time along I-80 in Mercer County because of a crash that involved more than 12 cars, a tractor-trailer rig and a fuel tanker.

Some injuries were reported, but none was considered life-threatening. PennDOT urged drivers to avoid unnecessary travel during inclement winter weather. Saturday’s pileup is just the latest of several crashes along I-80 in the past few days caused by dangerous road conditions, 21 WFMJ-TV reported.

7th Sebring results

SEBRING

The results of the seventh round of voluntary household water testing, reported Friday by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, show 84 of 87 samples taken from homes of Sebring residents who asked to have their tap water tested were below the federal allowable limit for lead. Combined with earlier voluntary test results, 842 of 882 samples have been below the federal allowable level, the OEPA reported. The OEPA continues to work closely with Sebring and the U.S. EPA to fine-tune the water chemistry to minimize lead from leaching into the water from piping of certain homes. Recent test results confirm that the village’s water plant is lead-free.
