Multi-vehicle pile-up slows I-80 to 45mph today

MERCER, PA.

On Saturday morning, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation temporarily reduced the speed to 45 miles-per-hour on Interstate 80 in Mercer and Venango counties after a multi-vehicle pile-up at about 8:30 a.m.

According to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, police said traffic was halted for some time along I-80 in Mercer County because of a crash that involved more than 12 cars, a tractor-trailer rig and a fuel tanker.

Some injuries were reported, but none were considered life-threatening.

PennDOT urged drivers to avoid unnecessary travel during inclement winter weather. Saturday’s pile-up is just the latest of several crashes along I-80 in the past few days caused by dangerous road conditions, 21 WFMJ-TV reported.
