Canfield High School senior soccer player Cheyenne Story signed her letter of intent to attend and play soccer for Ohio Dominican University at a signing ceremony in the high school’s athletic foyer on National Signing Day on Feb. 3.

Canfield High School Athletic Director Greg Cooper welcomed the large crowd of Story’s family, friends, classmates and teammates to the signing ceremony.

“Cheyenne is a young lady who exemplifies the student-athlete at Canfield High School. She has done a superlative job in the classroom and has been a fierce competitor on the soccer field. I know she will make us proud,” Cooper said.

After Story signed her letter, Cooper asked Phil Simone, Canfield High School head soccer coach, to say a few words about Story.

“Thank you for coming out for Cheyenne’s signing. Congratulations to Bill, Ashley and Cheyenne. I have watched Cheyenne play since she was small and I have enjoyed coaching her as a player all these years. The Story family is like an extended family to me and my family, and it is hard to see her go. She helped us build our program and showed her great appreciation for the game. I know she will take what she has learned from all her coaches here in Canfield and will show well for us at the next level. I wish her the best and I know she will do great,” Simone said.

Cooper then gave Story a chance to say a few words of her own.

“I’d like to thank my dad, Bill Story, and Frank Mancini. They gave me my start in soccer. They showed me how to play and made me a better player. I’d also like to thank my teammates for pushing me every day in practice. And, of course, I’d like to thank Coach Simone for everything he’s done for me. And a special thanks to both my sister and teammate, Ashley, and best friend and teammate, Anita Mancini,” Story said.

Story was an integral part of Canfield High School teams, which won 63 of 81 games played throughout four years, earning four All-American Conference and three District championships, along with two Regional runner-up finishes.

Individually, she was a four-year varsity letter-winner, was named a team captain as a senior and earned two-time All-District all-star team recognition.

As a club team player, Cheyenne was a center back for the Cleveland Futbol Club, being selected as team captain for the 2015-2016 U.S. Youth Soccer National League team, earning a 2015 Midwest Regional League Premier championship and a 2014 Ohio North State Cup championship after being finalists in 2013 and 2015.

At Ohio Dominican, Cheyenne plans to pursue a major in Chemistry with the goal of becoming a physician’s assistant.

“Canfield is a special place because of our students, parents and community. Cheyenne is one of Canfield’s finest. We send with her our best wishes as she prepares to go out into the world. We will miss her,” Cooper said.
