POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:

HUBBARD

Feb. 5

Theft: Charles H. Doerr II, 51, of Jackson Street, Hubbard, faced theft and criminal-trespassing charges after someone apparently had tried to steal two bottles of vodka from a Shell True North gas station, 204 W. Liberty St.

Feb. 6

Summons: Police issued a minor- misdemeanor citation to Mark J. Hopkins of Christian Avenue, Hubbard, after saying the 50-year-old Hopkins had on his property visible junk, such as a boat with no license plate or sticker and a rusted car frame lying in the yard, all of which was in violation of a city ordinance.

Assault: A man alleged a 58-year-old Hubbard man had pushed and struck the accuser at a business in the 500 block of North Main Street.

Theft: A Viola Avenue man reported a Jeep he had for sale was missing two of its doors while at a North Main Street business.

Feb. 7

Arrest: A traffic stop near Myron Street resulted in the arrest of Aaron T. Cesene, 34, of Hager Street, Hubbard. He was wanted on a felony theft charge.

Assault: A Youngstown man alleged a 59-year-old Girard woman had choked him during an argument at a residence in the 600 block of West Park Avenue.

Feb. 8

Identity fraud: An elderly Westview Drive woman discovered three fraudulent charges from gas stations that totaled $439 before she closed the account.

Criminal damaging: Someone in a semi-truck drove over and damaged part of a lawn in the 10 block of South Main Street.

LIBERTY

Feb. 5

Arrest: A traffic stop in the 4000 block of Belmont Avenue led to the arrest of 35-year-old Michael Koval of North Road Southeast, Warren, on a charge of obstructing official business. Koval, who was wanted on warrants, provided his brother’s name when asked for identification and made several false statements, authorities said.

Drugs: Police on Belmont Avenue pulled over and charged Zachary J. Markovich of East Western Reserve Road, Boardman, with possession of a drug-abuse instrument after alleging the 22-year-old Markovich had a hypodermic needle in his boot.

Recovered property: A man at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, found a $600 iPhone that a Youngstown woman had reported stolen.

Feb. 6

Drugs: Police near Goldie Road pulled over and charged 69-year-old Steven Demes of Logan Gate Road, Liberty, with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, along with 73-year-old James J. Wylie of Hager Street, Hubbard, with possession of drug paraphernalia. Found were a metal container with suspected marijuana, as well as suspected marijuana and crack-cocaine pipes, a report showed.

Fraud: A Catherine Street woman learned that someone without authorization had obtained information regarding her prepaid debit/credit card, then used the card to withdraw $134 from her account.

Feb. 7

Arrest: Jacob E. Ratliff, 23, was charged with operating a vehicle impaired after authorities had stopped his car near Belmont Avenue. Ratliff, of McMullen-Allen Road, Newton Falls, had a 0.197 blood-alcohol count, more than twice Ohio’s 0.08 legal limit, a report said.

Felonious assault: Authorities at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital interviewed a Smithsonian Street woman, who reported she was stabbed at her home in what evidently had started as an argument about a set of keys. The victim suffered deep cuts to the top of her head and left cheek.

Feb. 8

Arrest: Officers at the Mahoning County jail took custody of 35-year-old Angela Hunt-Viglio of Washington Boulevard, Boardman, who was wanted on a probation-violation charge.

Domestic violence: A charge was pending against a 26-year-old Girard man after an employee with a Goldie Road business alleged her estranged husband had made several threats against her while the accuser was at work.

Feb. 9

Auto theft: Someone took a 1985 Chevrolet vehicle from Ralph’s Auto Repair, 21 Fairlawn Ave., without authorization.

Criminal damaging: A key was used to cause an estimated $1,000 in damage to a truck’s finish in the 900 block of Powers Avenue.

GIRARD

Feb. 5

Drugs: Police responded to a possible drug overdose in the 600 block of Trumbull Avenue, where an unresponsive woman reportedly was found slumped in a restroom with a needle in her lap.

Arrest: Police on East Howard Street took into custody Daniel Morar IV, no information given. He was wanted on a Hempfield Township, Pa., warrant charging him with making terroristic threats.

Feb. 6

Theft: A woman noticed her purse, wallet and other items missing from her car while at a business in the 300 block of South Market Street.

Theft: A worker for Dairy Queen, 201 S. State St., told officers a man in a blue Toyota vehicle short-changed her $19 while in the drive-thru.

Feb. 7

Drugs: A possible charge was pending after authorities responded to a drug overdose in the 300 block of Taylor Avenue. After coming to, the victim admitted having used heroin; also found was a syringe with suspected heroin, a report stated.

Assault: While answering a possible fight call on Jones Court, police charged Dennis E. Mosely, 26, of West Second Street, Girard, with simple assault after a relative alleged Mosely had choked him during an argument regarding a stolen Sony PlayStation 4 game system.

Feb. 9

Arrest: Officers in downtown Youngstown took custody of 25-year-old Brittany N. Littlejohn of Youngstown. She was wanted on a felony Girard warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Identity fraud: An East Prospect Street man alleged a family member had used his Social Security number in an effort to buy a home in the Canton area.

Theft: An employee with a Girard pizzeria told police that a man stole $35 from him as he delivered a pizza to an address in the 100 block of West Second Street.

Feb. 10

Arrest: Authorities charged Lawrence A. Molek, no age listed, of East Liberty Street, Girard, with telecommunications harassment, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and criminal trespassing after saying Molek had made two inappropriate calls to 911 and was in a city-owned building for no lawful purpose. He also briefly struggled with officers, a report showed.
