Commissioners seek bids for recyclables hauler

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County commissioners voted this morning to advertise for bids for hauling and processing of recyclable materials from the county’s 28 public drop-off sites.

The contract would call for use of 8-cubic yard front-load containers supplied by the contractor to replace the 24-cubic yard roll-off containers now in use, for a hoped for annual savings of $200,000 due to improved operating efficiencies.

A truck can only haul one 24-cubic-yard roll-off container at a time, but it can haul recyclables collected from multiple 8-cubic-yard front-load containers at multiple locations on the same trip, explained Lou Vega, county recycling director.
