A man who was found passed out in the bathroom of a Market Street restaurant Friday from a heroin overdose is in the Mahoning County jail on $10,000 bond.
Michael Cottrill, 27, of Beaver, Pa., was arraigned Monday in municipal court before Judge Elizabeth Kobly on a felony charge of possession of heroin and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Cottrill was found after police were called about 2:30 p.m. Friday to the McDonald’s restaurant at 2525 Market St., where he was unconscious in a stall of the bathroom.
Reports said Cottrill’s wife gave police some heroin that was in Cottrill’s pocket. Officers also found a needle and a burnt spoon in a garbage can, reports said.
Reports said Cottrill’s wife called police after she waited in the parking lot for a half-hour for her husband, who told her he had to use the bathroom. Reports said she became suspicious because he was inside so long, and she went in to look for him.
Reports said when she was inside she could hear employees talking about a man passed out in the bathroom, and she went in the bathroom and found him lying there, reports said.
Cottrill was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where he was treated before being released to police and booked into the jail.
