Sales tax case delayed by outburst in court

WARREN — A trial that was supposed to begin this morning in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court this morning was delayed by an outburst by the defendant.

Kevin Evans was brought into the courtroom of Judge W. Wyatt McKay, where he was scheduled to serve as his own attorney and give opening statements.

But instead, Evans, 38, immediately started complaining from the defense table about Judge McKay speaking earlier today with his former attorney and other matters in a loud voice.

Evans is on trial on charges of failing to pay sales taxes at his business, KC Quality Custom Car Care on Mahoning Avenue.

Judge McKay asked jurors to leave the courtroom and later found Evans in contempt of court.

Its not known whether the trial will resume.
