ROOTSTOWN

U.S. Rep Tim Ryan of Howland, D-13th, announced $498,282 in federal funds to Northeast Ohio Medical University. The money was provided by the U.S. Economic Development Administration to establish a pharmaceutical-focused proof-of-concept center at NEOMED.

The center’s activities will focus on accelerating the commercialization of new pharmaceuticals to applicable markets, the creation of pre-clinical research protocols and the development of a commercialization program to stimulate technology commercialization via start-up and technology licensing. The total project will cost $1,155,868.

Jury seated in trial

WARREN

A jury has been seated in the trial of Kevin L. Evans, 38, of Beal Street Northwest, charged with multiple counts of failing to remit sales taxes to the state for his business, K C Quality Custom Car Care, 3080 Mahoning Ave. NW.

Evans, convicted in 2004 in Trumbull County of breaking and entering, theft and receiving stolen property, is serving as his own attorney in the courtroom of Judge W. Wyatt McKay. Opening statements will be given today.

Elections board

WARREN

The executive committees of the Trumbull County Republican and Democratic parties will meet this week to appoint someone to fill two positions on the county elections board that expire at the end of February.

The positions are now held by Ron Knight for the Republicans and Ken Kubala for the Democrats. The Republicans meet today, and the Democrats meet Thursday.

The next term of office will last three years. The appointments are sent to Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted for confirmation.
