High-speed chase

CAMPBELL

A New Castle man was arrested after police said he led them on a high-speed pursuit while intoxicated that ended on U.S. Route 422 in Campbell and Coitsville.

Matthew Beck, 30, is charged with failure to comply with the orders of police officers, improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle, passing left of center, having a blood-alcohol level higher than 0.17, and reckless operation of a motor vehicle, reported 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

Police say the suspect sped away Friday night when officers tried to pull his car over on McCartney Road for traffic violations. Beck’s Ford truck had heavy front-end damage, was emitting smoke and had a burned-out headlight.

Police said Beck hit another car at the intersection of Route 422 and 12th Street. When officers turned on the lights and sirens, Beck began to drive away at a high speed but stopped on South Hubbard Road when a tire on the truck blew out. Beck was booked into the Mahoning County jail and was scheduled to appear in court today.
