Track athletes do well at YSU’s Invitational meet

The Youngstown State indoor track and field teams fared well in the two-day YSU National Invitational at the WATTS.
Austin McLean won the mile run at the Armory Elite Invitational and Arnaldo Morales finished first in the high jump.
At the Armory Elite Invitational, McLean placed first in the men’s mile run with a time of 4:10 and Chad Zallow took fifth in the men’s 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.79 seconds.
Morales cleared the bar at 2.11 meters in the men’s high jump to take first.
In the women’s shot put, Jaynee Corbett took first with a toss of 15.05 meters to break her own school record of 15.01 meters.
Ryan Booth won the men’s shot put with a throw of 17.19 meters and Jacob Chiclowe finished fourth with a toss of 15.99 meters.
The Penguins had a first and second place finish in the 60-meter hurdles as Amber Eles took first with a time of 8.60 seconds and Shatasia Walker was right behind her with a time of 8.74 to take second.
YSU football player David Rivers III finished first in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.94 seconds.
Lasander Washington ran a time of 7.03 to take sixth in the 60-meter dash.
In the women’s high jump, Abby Jones placed second by clearing the bar at 1.60 meters.
In the men’s high jump, Jay Jakovina finished third clearing a height of 2.00 meters.
For the women’s triple jump, Savannah Osborne finished third with a leap of 11.56 meters.
Alan Burns took fourth in the men’s mile with a time of 4:14.55.
Jen Shiley ran a time of 57.53 seconds in the women’s 400-meter dash to place fourth.
For the men’s 60-meter hurdles, Sam Shaviss finished fourth with a time of 8.49 seconds.
In the men’s 800-meter run, Jon Hutnyan clocked a time of 1:54.91 to take fourth.
For the women’s 200-meter dash, Shiley placed sixth with a time of 25:76 seconds and Taylor McDonald was right behind her to clock in seventh with a time of 25.82 seconds.
Isaac Agyemang competed in the men’s heptathlon to take second with a score of 4,821 points to break the school record.
For the women’s pentathlon, Chenera Lacey came in second with a score of 3,241 points. The women took third in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:53.47, the relay consisted of Shiley, Burts, McDonald and Ritchie.
YSU is next in action at the SPIRE NCAA DI Invitational from Feb. 12-13.
