Leadership academy diplomas
The Ohio Township Association awarded diplomas to 20 participants at a Leadership Academy Winter Conference at the Columbus Convention Center from Jan. 27 to 30. Greg Taillon, the Jackson Township police chief, and Brian Governor, a Canfield Township trustee, were graduates.
Ohio Township Association Leadership Academy was created in 2003 to provide education to elected officials, township staff, employees and appointed individuals.
Through the joint efforts of the Ohio Township Association, OSU Extension: Office of Community Development, and Miami University’s Center for Public Management and Regional Affairs, the program offers courses designed to enhance the leadership and decision-making skills of those involved in Ohio township government.
To complete the academy, Taillon and Governor were required to attend a general workshop at the OTA conference; participate in six of 10 elective courses; attend the National Association of Towns and Townships annual conference in Washington, or the OTA Federal Day Workshop at the OTA office in Blacklick, Ohio; and meet all the requirements within three years of beginning the program.
