Students at Austintown Fitch High School showed off their creativity on Jan. 21 during the Creative Arts Night at the high school.
Several clubs set up tables and spoke to guests about what they do.
Creative Arts Night gave students the opportunity to showcase clubs that are available to join outside of athletics. The cafeteria was home to most of the clubs and workshops that Fitch has to offer, while the Media Arts room showcased different types of performances, like poetry and theater.
Students who worked for Fitch’s paper, “The Talon,” displayed previous publications to show how far they have come. The National Honor Society made ice cream sundaes for donations, as well as other clubs selling different items for donations. Austintown’s Community Television, ACTV, had a green screen set up for people to take a picture in front of.
Taylor Franczkowksi and Abi Biroschak, seniors at Fitch, helped teacher Steven Ward put the night together. All of the students that participated in the Creative Arts Night are in the same class where the idea began at the beginning of the school year. More ideas came along closer to the arts night and the students became more excited to have a night dedicated to the arts.
“Hard work and dedication is put into these things all the time. It’s a nice way to be able to show to the community what they can do,” said Franczkwoski.
Fitch’s different band groups put on a performance for the guests throughout the night. There were also performances being put on by the theater club. A student taught a painting class and the speech and debate showed off their skills, as well.
“It’s been like a three month process and everyone just jumped in to help. They are excited that they’re being celebrated, because that’s something that isn’t always done. The arts aren’t always as celebrated as they should be,” said Biroschak.
