Northern Whale, a local band from Youngstown, is working on expanding their popularity by becoming a contestant in the second annual jukebox “Battle of the Bands” contest put on by TouchTunes. TouchTunes is the largest in-venue interactive music and entertainment platform and is featured in more than 70,000 bars and restaurants across North America and Europe.
Northern Whale’s single, “Deep,” is competing against almost 300 other unsigned artists and their singles. The winner of the competition will win a live audition with Warner Brothers Records A&R, a music promotion on TouchTunes and $3,000.
“It feels amazing to be in this, not even necessarily for the contest, but it’s really cool to be on TouchTunes. By being at a TouchTunes Jukebox location, such as Buffalo Wild Wings, you can download the app or simply walk up to it and play ‘Deep’ by Northern Whale. It’s really cool when it’s playing and we look around the restaurant, and find a few people tapping their foot or wondering what the song is,” said lead singer Jake Capezzuto.
The band consists of three members; Jake Capezzuto (lead vocalist and keys), Brandon Fisher (vocals and drums) and Scott Davis (guitar). Northern Whale started in 2009 with Capezzuto and Fisher. Davis later joined in 2014 as the new guitarist.
“If we did win, we’d use the money towards more gear or studio time. Every penny would go back into the band in some way, shape or form,” said Capezzuto.
The artists will be judged in two rounds by Duran Duran, Dwight Yoakam, Bebe Rexha and Adam Lambert.
Ten finalists will be announced during the month of February and the winner will be announced in early March. To vote for Northern Whale, or any other artist, visit www.TouchTunesBreakoutBand.com.
