The Celebrate Poland committee hosted a Pancake Breakfast fundraiser at Poland Seminary High School on Jan. 23.

“This is our first try at a fundraiser because we are a non-profit and run strictly on donations,” said Vice President of Celebrate Poland Cindy Best.

All of the donations collected at the pancake breakfast are going to be used toward the Celebrate Poland 10th Anniversary event on June 24 and 25. The majority of items at the breakfast were all donated by different companies and organizations, very few items had to be purchased by the committee. Those who worked the breakfast were all volunteers and were happy to donate their time for a good cause.

Aside from the breakfast food items, gift baskets were donated for a raffle. Poland Women’s Club and several local churches donated money, products and their time to help the pancake breakfast become a success. Poland Seminary High School also played a big part in allowing the breakfast to take place by providing a location.

“If it’s successful it may become an annual event and we think it is going to be successful. So far we have had a great turnout,” said Celebrate Poland board member, Dave Smith.

For those who chose not to dine in, a take out option was provided. People could come in and pick out their food to put in a container and take on the go. One guest, who explained that she is not a pancake fan, even said how the pancakes were light, fluffy and delicious.

The pancake breakfast gave community members an opportunity to socialize over breakfast. Several groups of people stayed after they finished their meal to chat and catch up with each other. Smith called the event a “pancake social.”

The turnout was more successful than the committee had originally thought. Being the first fundraiser, they didn’t know what to expect. After the success of this event, Celebrate Poland is hoping to make the pancake breakfast an annual event.
