Mahoning commissioners buy four vehicles for sheriff's fleet

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning County commissioners bought four vehicles this morning to supplement the county sheriff’s department fleet.

They passed a resolution of necessity to buy three 2016 Ford Utility Interceptors from Statewide Ford Lincoln Mercury through an Ohio Department of Administrative Services contract for a total of $97,692.

They approved another resolution to buy a 2014 Ford Explorer for $20,000 from the Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force.

The commissioners also approved a $452,155 contract for engineering services with the San Francisco-based URS Corp. for an upgrade to the Boardman Wastewater Treatment Plant, which discharges treated effluent into Mill Creek.

The upgrade is occurring as the Boardman plant prepares to accept sewage now being treated at the New Middletown Wastewater Treatment Plant, which the county plans to close.

The New Middletown Plant will close because the county determined it would be cost prohibitive to upgrade treatment at that plant to meet Ohio Environmental Protection Agency standards governing discharges into Honey Creek, which is a much smaller stream than Mill Creek.
