Youngstown council approves paying $365K for used fire trucks

YOUNGSTOWN — City council approved legislation today allowing the board of control to spend up to $365,000 for a couple of used fire trucks.

No purchase will be made for at least a month or two as city officials determine how to pay for the trucks, however.

The pumper trucks – one is six years old and the other is nine years old – would replace a pair of trucks from 1987 that are used as backups, said fire Chief John J. O’Neill Jr. One of the 19-year-old trucks doesn’t work, he said.

Also today, council approved an ordinance allowing the board of control to purchase eight metal detectors for the Covelli Centre for no more than $30,000.

The board is expected Thursday to approve the purchase with the metal detectors at the center in a few weeks.
