Sojourn to the Past to host Sunday fundraiser

Sojourn to the Past will host a spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Richard Brown United Methodist Church, 1205 Elm St. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children under 12, and guests can eat in or take out.

Sojourn to the Past is a seven-day trip to the civil-rights sites in the South starting March 25. Thirteen Youngstown high school students will meet icons of the movement in Little Rock, Ark.; Memphis, Tenn.; Jackson, Hattiesburg and Meridian, Miss.; and Selma and Birmingham, Ala., and develop an action plan to implement when they return to Youngstown.

Sojourn students of previous years developed a Nonviolence Week for the city schools, made the event an annual program in schools, the city and at Youngstown State University, witnessed Gov. John Kasich sign a Nonviolence Week in Ohio bill into law and created a nonviolence parade and rally.

St. David’s Society to offer 125th banquet

St. David’s Society of Youngstown will host its 125th annual St. David’s Day banquet in honor of the patron saint of Wales at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 27 at A La Cart Catering, 429 Lisbon St.

The banquet is the signature event of the society and takes place the Saturday closest to St. David’s Day, which is March 1.

The hall will be decorated with Welsh flags, shields, banners, likenesses of St. David and daffodils, the national flower of Wales. There will be food, entertainment by Judy Conti and the Dancing Divas, speakers and group singing in the Welsh tradition as well as toasts to St. David, Wales and the United States.

Tickets are $20 each, and reservations are required by Feb. 20 at 330-792-2000.
