Niles man gets year in prison for $97,000 church theft

WARREN — Michael Marrara, the fired former Niles sewer maintenance worker who stole $97,000 from Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Niles, was sentenced to one year in prison today.

Marrara, 59, of Sayers Avenue, was handcuffed and will go immediately to prison.

Judge W. Wyatt McKay of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court said among the reasons for prison are that Marrara had a previous felony conviction and showed no remorse.

Marrara pleaded guilty earlier to grand theft.
