CAMPBELL

Campbell K-7 School will host a countywide math competition at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Groups of students in kindergarten through ninth grade from several Mahoning County schools will participate in a “24 Game” tournament.

The “24 Game” challenges students to use math equations to arrive at 24 from the numbers provided to them.

The Michael “Mickey” Soroka Charitable Foundation is sponsoring the event and providing prizes. The foundation, established in memory of a Campbell teacher, supports Campbell students with scholarships and educational activities.

Family members are welcome to attend the event, located at 2002 Community Circle.

Weekend incident

HUBBARD

Police are investigating a weekend incident of breaking and entering at the Main Moon Restaurant on West Liberty Street.

A police report notes a smashed glass door and lists $100 as taken from the cash register.

Surveillance footage shows a white male leaving a vehicle Saturday morning before smashing the door with a brick and kicking the door in, police reported. The footage then shows the man crawling through the door, going to the cash register and taking money before fleeing.

YMCA renovations

YOUNGSTOWN

The YMCA of Youngstown, 17 N. Champion St., will unveil detailed plans for major renovations of the Central Y at 9:30 a.m. next Wednesday at the Central Y’s second-floor community gym.

During the meeting – hosted by Timothy Hilk, Y chief executive officer, the Y leadership team and board of trustees – Tom Fleming and Youngstown State University Jim Tressel, co-chairmen of the YMCA’s “Growing Together” capital campaign, will provide a campaign status report.

Workshops planned

OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science & Technology, 11 W. Federal St., invites the public and their children to participate in their February workshops. Children age 8 and up can make a simple microscope to take home Saturday; children of all ages are invited to discover chemistry and explore the reason for the season Feb. 13; children age 5 and up can make a model lung Feb. 20; and children of all ages can explore the micro world with Microscope Mayhem on Feb. 27. The programs are from noon to 2 p.m. and are free with museum admission.
