CAMPBELL
A man charged with a bank robbery in the city will appear in Campbell Municipal Court for a preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. Friday.
A 26-year-old Youngs-town man faces an aggravated robbery charge, a first-degree felony.
A teller at Huntington Bank on McCartney Road told police the man placed a bag and a note on the counter Monday afternoon.
The note said, “I have a boom [sic]. I want $10,000,” according to a police report.
The teller said she did not have $10,000, prompting the man to demand all the money she had.
The man fled on foot after the teller gave him cash.
It was later discovered that the only thing in the bag was a Bible, police said. Police caught the man near the Four Seasons Flea Market on McCartney Road.
The man had $1,000 in his pocket and told officers “voices told him to do it,” police reported.
The man’s mother said at his arraignment Tuesday her son is mentally ill. He is in the Mahoning County jail.
