Cops arrest man, find two guns

YOUNGSTOWN

Police arrested a man and found two guns early Sunday on the East Side.

Police were called about 12:25 a.m. to a home in the first block of Lansdowne Boulevard for a report that several men were outside of a home, and one of them had a gun.

Reports said officers spotted a man matching the description of the person who was supposed to have the gun, Alaunte Rhodes, 26, and when Rhodes saw police, he and another man began running away.

Vice squad officers Jimmy Hughes Jr. and Mike Quinn, who heard the call on their radio and came to assist, began chasing the men. Reports said the pair chased the men through several yards, and they had to jump several fences while chasing them.

At a home in the first block of Livingston Avenue, reports said Rhodes threw a gun under a vehicle, and that’s when he was caught. The other man got away.

Police found a loaded 9mm handgun underneath the vehicle where Rhodes threw a gun, reports said. They also searched the area and found a loaded .380-caliber semiautomatic handgun, reports said.

The two guns seized give the police 20 guns found so far this year.
